Days 32-37/365: Silence, Contours and Space

It has been a wonderful week on the 20 Day Challenge that I am taking part in, although it has taken up all of my time leaving none for posting here on the blog. The themes have been lots of fun and very helpful in stirring up some creative ideas for me. Day 32 - Reflection. It is fair to say that I had a lot of fun with this one. I am loving how that matte effect looks on black and white too. Day 33 - Silence. I had a hard time with this one, because how do you photograph silence? In the end I went with this one along with the caption Silence occurs in the moment between the drops. I had to take well over a 100 shots to get the drops just as I wanted them. I also played around with different lighting but one studio light to the side worked best as it gave the droplets some definition. Day 34 - Red I was tired and not really in the mood to be creative with this one. So I took the easy option with a quick iPhone shot on the way home from work. I was h...

Day 31\365: Colouring with Light

Today's theme for the the 20 day photo challenge was Colour. It was a cold, dark and rainy day here today and I initially struggled to find ideas. I was yearning for gorgeous bright colourful walls with a child dressed in a contrasting colour popping against it. That was never going to happen today. Then I remembered a really cool Photoshop project from a recent copy of Digital Photo magazine, and I had my first photo. I enrolled Roo to be the subject in the photo. He wasn't overly into it at first, but he loved the end result. Later, Bear and I got busy with some colouring.  Finally, we had some serious fun with some light writing using coloured glow sticks. This was so much fun and I was very impressed with Roo's creative ideas. It is so hard to choose any favourites.

Days 29-30/365: Light and Free

I am being carried merrily along by the 20 day photo challenge I have entered this month. The themes for the past two days have been Light and Free.  Day 29 - Light. This gave me a push towards light writing which is a lot of fun. The kids got involved too. I also had some fun with shaped bokeh using my lensbaby.  Day 30 - Free I struggled more with this one because I was short on time and inspiration. I really lack a sense of freedom in my life right now, so I felt that I was clutching at straws.  I used the theme to highlight the freedom that comes from reading...  ... and my desire to travel freely with the kids, if I was ever free enough to do so.

Days 27-28/365: Opposites and Happiness

I have taken up a 20 day photo challenge and it has been a wonderful way to get the creative juices flowing. I am hoping that it will carry me along nicely through this difficult dark month. This time of year was very tough last year but I have my studio lighting and new kitchen space this year, which has been a huge help. Day 27 - The theme for yesterday  was Opposites  I am now keen to get hold of a chalkboard for more of this sort of photo. Glass half empty/glass half full. The wall in the background is part of our unfinished kitchen. I am going to miss it. The edit was the coral blue split toning that I discovered a few days ago.  Darkness/light Day 28 - Today's theme was happiness. Nothing brings out natural happiness in my kids more than the words "hey kids let's go jump on my bed and take photos". I used my studio lighting and it was amazing! I was able to get my ISO down a little and shutter speed up. That would have been total...
