Day 316/365: Lightroom Presets

I am still not feeling very inspired with my photography and only managed to take some pretty dreadful photos tonight. I edited them to the best of my ability and planned to add them onto a post tomorrow. But then I stumbled across some free downloadable presets for Lightroom and I thought that I might give them a try.  I have been meaning to purchase some via Clickin Moms but I thought that the free ones might give me some idea how they work. Basically you just download them and import them into Lightroom. They are essentially like filters in Instagram but at least I see what settings they have used. I can't quite convince myself that it is not cheating... but at least I am learning something from the experience.  There were about 12 presets to choose from. Some of them are pretty crazy and throwaway. I like the black and white ones best I think. It's Monday night, so I don't have much time to examine what the preset has done here. One thing that I notice is that ...

Day 315/365: Tea Party

I'm not sure that I have completely recovered from my couple of days away this week and my photo mojo has suffered. Bear and I enjoyed a pretend tea party in the garden today. I took the opportunity to take some low ISO outdoor shots.

Days 312-314/365: Home and Away

I am home again after a couple of work related days away in Liverpool. Sadly I had no time to explore Liverpool and take interesting photos. All I have to offer from day 312 are a few quick hotel room shots. I brought the Lensbaby along as it is small and I thought that I might capture more interesting pictures than I would with the 50mm. There is no doubt that none of these photos would have been taken if it weren't for the 365 - and that would have been okay! Looking at this coke can photo now, I wonder if I could have changed the angle to find some leading lines using the window frame.  This was the view from my hotel window. I wish that I had managed to get the Liverpool Lime Street sign in focus. I would have switched to a different aperture disc if I had brought them.  I was very tired when I returned home last night and nearly forgot to take any pictures at all. I had to get out of bed to snap these two.  We were almost back to reali...

Days 310-311: Home Sweet Home

This week's theme for the 52 Project is Home Sweet Home. It feels fitting for me this week as I am spending two days away from home because of a work trip... and I am not happy about it. Right now the concept of home couldn't be sweeter. I really dislike going away without my family.  The pictures from day 310 consist of bath/shower time shots. I have swapped my working days around this week to accommodate the work trip. This means that I was home today so I thought that I might get something sorted for the 52. Luckily I had these letters lying around and Bear was happy to have a little play with them.  I cracked the Lensbaby out for this one and I am excited by the way it has turned out.  Now I am struggling to decide which one to submit.  Of course I will bring the camera along for the overnight trip but I will be limiting myself to one small lens. That means that it is a choice between the 50mm and the Lensbaby. As my shots w...

Days 308-309/365: Bexhill on a Whim

It was a glorious almost summer's day yesterday (day 308) and we decided to head off to one of our favourite beach towns on a whim. There is something about Bexhill-On-Sea that fills us with happiness. It is a magical little place. It was actually pretty late in the afternoon by the time we set off and early evening by the time we got there. It is amazing that we are able to do things like that now that the kids are a little older. I love having a bit more flexibility in our lives again. It has taken a long time to get here.  I took the 100mm lens along because I figured that it would be the best for the job. I love this lens... I can't help wondering what I could get with a better camera body though. Hmmm. It was back to black and white tonight (day 309), but the natural light streaming in the windows at bedtime makes it all ok.
